This guide explains how to watch Town Council meetings, how to find out what is being decided, and how to address the council.

When they meet

The Town Council meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.

The council is the body that makes the decisions shaping the town, including the budget, town codes, zoning, annexations, contracts, and the services the town takes on next. Most changes inside town limits come before the council first.

How to watch

Meetings stream live on the Town's YouTube channel, linked from the Town's website at santanvalley.gov. You do not have to attend in person to follow along, and you do not have to live inside town limits to watch. Many council decisions affect the whole San Tan Valley area.

Recordings remain available afterward, so if you missed a meeting where an issue you care about was decided, you can go back and watch that portion.

Find the agenda before the meeting

The agenda is the most useful document the Town publishes before each meeting. It is posted ahead of each meeting on the Town's website at santanvalley.gov, along with the supporting materials - the staff reports, maps, contracts, and presentations the council will be reviewing.

Reviewing the agenda a day or two before the meeting takes only a few minutes, and it is the most reliable way to learn that a pending decision affects your neighborhood before that decision is made.

Look for:

• Public hearings - items where residents are specifically invited to speak
• Zoning and annexation items - often the items of greatest interest to neighbors
• Consent agenda - routine items approved as a group, which can still include items of interest

Speaking at a meeting

Council meetings include time for public comment. If you want to address the council, arrive early and follow the Town's process for signing up to speak, which is typically a form or sign-in sheet before the meeting starts.

If you are speaking on a specific agenda item, especially a public hearing, note the item number you are addressing.

Contacting the council by email

Every council member and the Town Manager publishes an email address. For many concerns, a written email can be as effective as speaking during public comment, because it reaches council members before the decision and creates a written record. Tap any address to start a message.

Serving on a board or committee

The Town has boards and committees that residents can apply to serve on. Serving on a board or committee is the most direct way for residents to take part in how town decisions are made. Applications go through the Town.

County government

If you live in the unincorporated San Tan Valley area, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors is your equivalent governing body. The Board meets on selected Wednesdays at 9:30am in Florence.
