Give Back

Roll up a sleeve for your neighbors. American Legion Joe Foss Post 97 and Vitalant are hosting a Community Blood Drive at the San Tan Valley Veterans Center on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and everyone is invited: veterans, military families, first responders and anyone in the community who is eligible to give.

It is a simple, close-to-home way to help make sure blood is there for Arizona patients when they need it most.

Appointments are encouraged. Reserve a time at vitalant.org using blood drive code P2Y328. Walk-ins are welcome as space allows.

Bingo runs every Sunday at the San Tan Valley Veterans Center, and it is open to the public. You do not need to be a veteran to play.

Doors open at 11:30 AM and games start at 12:30 PM. Bingo packs are $30 and Betty Boop cards are $5, with more sheets and options available on site. Sandwiches, desserts and non-alcoholic drinks are sold each week at minimal cost, and carry-ins are not allowed.

Cash only, no checks or credit. Anyone under 18 needs an adult present at all times. Proceeds go directly to funding Veterans Center programs, so an afternoon of bingo puts money straight back into the community.

Join the park's Desert Defenders and help restore the desert. Volunteers scatter native seed pellets, made earlier this year, across Maricopa County's regional parks. The seeds were chosen because they thrive in our local conditions. Families are welcome, and parents must stay with minors. The park recommends ages 5 and up. You will walk park trails, some short and some longer, and the park will tell you ahead of time if a hike runs more than 2 miles round trip. Bring work gloves, water and a snack, and wear a long-sleeved shirt, pants and closed-toe shoes. Registration is required through the sign-up link on this listing. If fewer than two people register, organizers may cancel at least a day ahead and will notify registrants by email. Meet at the Nature Center.

Lace up, San Tan Valley. The Jingle Jog is back for its second year with a holiday 5K, a toy drive and a free pancake breakfast at Poston Butte High School.

The morning starts with the 5K. After the race, stick around for family activities and a stroll through the North Pole Vendor Village, where local businesses and community groups set up decorated holiday booths. The whole event runs about four hours.

Pinal County Supervisor Mike Goodman is hosting the Jingle Jog with the Town of San Tan Valley and local nonprofit groups. Questions? Call Ashley Taylor with Pinal County at 520-866-8080.
