Manning, Decker lead Broncos past Chiefs 35-28

Some of you seemed to feel otherwise, arguing via our comments section that the Week 1 “bets” were too timid, too obvious. So, as George Costanza once bellowed[1]: “You wanna get nuts? Who out there attended the Diamondbacks vs Brewers game this past weekend?  If you did, you were fortunate to see "one of our own" up on the Jumbotron. San Tan Valley resident, Emily Saults, won the National Semi-Finals at Chase Field on Sunday and is now the Arizona Diamondbacks representative for the 2012 All-Star Game.  Not only was Emily announced prior to the game, her picture and the fact that she was from San Tan Valley, were on the Jumbotron for all to see.  She is also soon to be mentioned on http://www.mlb.com as well.

The NFL says its investigation into whether the New England Patriots used under-inflated footballs in the AFC championship game is ongoing after a report Tuesday night claimed the league found 11 balls were not properly inflated. Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president for football operations, told The Associated Press that the "investigation is currently underway and we're still awaiting findings."

The NFL is investigating whether the New England Patriots deflated footballs that were used in their AFC championship game victory over the Indianapolis Colts. "We are looking into it," league spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in an email to The Associated Press on Monday. "We do not have anything further to add at this point."

East Valley Thunder is taking registra­tions for their Competitive Youth Basketball League. The East Valley Thunder Youth Basketball League will be divided into two divisions. The Purple Division will consist of fifth- and sixth-graders and the Gold Division will con­sist of seventh- and eighth graders. All games will be played on Saturday afternoons at Queen Creek High School, 22140 E. Ocotillo Road.

  The Mountain Vista Wolverines are having a very successful season. They are 2-1 after defeating Tartesso in last week’s home game. Coach McDonald is quite impressed with the dedication of his players, working hard during every practice. Some of the students participating are playing tackle football for the first time ever.

Mountain Vista Middle School’s lady Wolverines are having a great season. The team is 7-2 after defeating Cactus Canyon on Valentine’s Day.  

Paladin Sports Outreach has released details for the two major fund-raising events it will host in 2011. The 2nd Annual Taters for Tots Charity Softball Tournament, to be held Saturday, May 14th at Riverview Sports Complex in Mesa, will raise funds for the organization’s free youth baseball and softball instructional clinics in 2011. The event will also feature a major donation drive for canned food and gently-used clothing and sporting equipment. The food and clothes will be donated to the Phoenix Homeless Shelter, while the sports equipment will be refurbished and distributed by Paladin Sports Outreach to San Tan area youth and organizations who serve local youth. Individuals who donate will be eligible for prizes.
