Flag Football & Cheer Signups Underway at CMS

Flag football and cheer signups are currently underway and Combs Middle School and will continue through the middle of January.  Practices will begin Tuesday, January 14th from 4:00-5:15pm and continue every Tuesday and Thursday until March.

Ticket sales for the Fiesta Bowl are down. Officials from the University of Central Florida confirmed the school returned 10,000 tickets. Baylor ended up giving back 5,000 of their allotted tickets. Houssein Jabbar is the owner of Snack Land at Westgate in Glendale. Although ticket sales have taken a sizable dip he says he's not worried about his bottom line.
Sheila Anderson signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Central AZ College today! Sheila is the 3A South Player of the Year and selected to the 1-3A South All Star and All State Team. Sheila is a standout athlete at FHS and we are excited to see her earn the opportunity to continue her volleyball career while receiving her education at Central. We are so happy she will remain close to home for the next two years on a full ride athletic scholarship so we can continue to watch her play.

Poston Butte High School coaches, parents and staff celebrated athletic scholarships earned by four seniors in a commitment signing ceremony held in the main gym on Monday April 30th. The students are: Eric Augustine, Joel Lynde, Shane Gereg and Steve Henry. As members of the first graduating class, these students have been breaking ground on new traditions for three years. “We’ve been leaders ever since we’ve been here,” stated Augustine. “There were no older students to help show us the way. We set the standard.”

San Tan Foothills is not backing down against highly touted opponents. But the Sabercats are wearing down. Foothills gave Seton Catholic all it could handle in the first half, and then gave the Sentinels a short field in the third quarter. Unbeaten Seton Catholic took advantage of two crucial turnovers to come from behind and beat the ‘Cats 49-22.
Carlos Melendez's 25-yard touchdown run and subsequent two-point conversion propelled San Tan Foothills to a thrilling 52-50 comeback victory over host-Coolidge on Friday night. Melendez's final run saved the Sabercats, who blew a 44-14 halftime lead and found themselves trailing in the fourth quarter after Bears'running back Seth Ellis scored his fourth touchdown of the second half from 62 yards out. Coolidge quarterback Michael Felix scored on a two-point conversion to give the Bears a 50-44 lead.

J.O. Combs Unified School District is pleased to announce that on May 13, 2015 the Governing Board approved to implement a competitive sports program at J.O. Combs Middle School beginning the 2015-2016 school year.
It’s our favorite time of year as March brings us great weather, spring training baseball and the most exciting tournament of all…March Madness! We all love filling out our brackets and picking the teams we know for sure are going all the way to the final four, unless your like me and pick the ones that end up losing in the first round. And we all know who ends up winning the bracket challenge, the person who knows nothing about college basketball! But we play anyway because of how much fun it is.
