The beauty and serenity of San Tan Mountain Regional Park is at stake. The Friends of the San Tan Mountain Regional Park are asking the local community to voice your opposition to the development of the west side that borders San Tan Mountain Regional Park at the Queen Creek Town Council meeting December 19th.

In a Staff Report (GPA12-047) dated November 5th there is an amendment to the General Plan of Queen Creek to develop the west side of San Tan Mountain Regional Park (known as Box Canyon). The map on page 10 indicates that the location of a Master Planned Community and the location of the Hotel/Resort. The Master Planned Community is designed for what is known as very low density, or 0-1.0 dwellings per acre. One of the proposed changes is to increase the density cap to 1.8 dwellings per acre, which can be amended again by the Town Council in the future if need be.

Free Support Group for Diabetics in San Tan Valley

The Pinal County Public Health Services District is pleased to announce the formation of a Diabetes Support Group for residents living in the San Tan Valley area.

“We have had a lot of requests from residents in San Tan Valley to begin a support group,” said Mary Gonzales, Coordinator for the Diabetes Prevention and Education program.  “We are hoping that people will take advantage of this free program and learn more about diabetes and how to cope with the disease.”

Free in-home support begins for families in Pinal County

Parents seeking help in raising their children have a new agency to head to in Pinal County. Arizona’s Children Association has started a new Parents as Teachers program out of an office in Apache Junction at 1075 S. Idaho Road Suite 106.

“It’s been around for 27 years; Parents as Teachers came out of Missouri. All kinds of proof that it works,” Shelley Tellez, program supervisor, said Oct. 13 in a phone inter­view. “Evidence shows the children in the program score high in Kindergarten readi­ness tests and standardized tests in reading, math and language in elementary school.”

Free home drug test kits to help kids say ‘No’

The San Tan Valley Substance Abuse Coalition, in partnership with notMYKid, Rural/Metro, PCSO and Pan de Vida, will be distributing FREE drug kits to the San Tan Valley community on Friday, April 19th from 9am-5pm at the Walmart off of Hunt Hwy and Gary Road in an attempt to battle the national 420 event.

On April 20 (420), also known as “National Get High Day,” many kids around the world will try marijuana and other substances for the first time and parents need to understand the profound risks.
