Acton Impersonating an Officer - Again

On October 3rd, 2014, broke the story that Pinal County Constable candidate, John R Acton had fabricated a law enforcement career spanning 26 years.  By October 30th, we broke the story that he had also embellished his military experience.  In spite of the news that broke, one week later on Nov 4th, the registered voters of District 7, voted John R Acton to serve as the new Pinal County Constable.

Car found in a Canal by Laredo Ranch

Local San Tan Valley resident, Jodi Guterrez, was taking a walk with the kids this evening & came across a car submerged in a hidden canal in the desert close to Laredo Ranch.  She called 911.

Donovan Castro, of San Tan Valley, is the Featured Young Artist of the Month for No­vember at the Dreams & Legends of the Su­perstitions Gallery, 2260 N. Apachfee Trail in Apache Junction.

Donovan’s artwork is a mixed media display of oils, acrylics, markers and pencil sketches, reflecting a mature understanding of form and depth, according to a press re­lease.

Excessive Heat Warning in Effect until 8PM Sunday

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect from 10 am MST /10 am pdt/ this morning to 8 pm MST /8 pm pdt/ Sunday.   The warning is for the lower deserts of Arizona, as well as higher elevations east of Phoenix.  The afternoon highs will range between 115-121 across the lower deserts and 98-110 in the higher elevations.

Please keep in mind that exceedingly high temperatures can cause heat related illness, including death, more easily than an average summer day. Those working or playing outdoors, and those without air conditioning are most vulnerable. Even healthy individuals are at risk in these conditions.

Events held for all ages at San Tan Park

San Tan Mountain Regional Park, 6533 W. Phillips Road in Queen Creek, consists of more than 10,000 acres and is a fine example of the lower Sonoran Desert.

The park ranges in elevation from about 1,400 feet to over 2,500 feet. Goldmine Mountain is located in the northern area, with a spectacular San Tan Mountain escarpment in the southern portion of the park. The vegetation changes from creosote flats to dense saguaro forest. Various types of wildlife may be observed, including reptiles, birds, and mammals. Enjoy one or more of the eight multi-use (hiking, biking or horse-back riding) trails combining for a total of approximately 18 miles of recreational activity.

Enjoy a super "supermoon"

Tonight is the night to enjoy a super "supermoon".

A supermoon occurs when the moon is slightly closer to Earth than it typically is, and the effect is most noticeable when it occurs at the same time as a full moon, according to James Garvin, chief scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

For tonight's supermoon, the skies over the desert southwest will offer a clear view, which is great news for those of us in San Tan Valley.  The supermoon will rise in the east at sunset tonight, Saturday, June 22.

Ellsworth Road & Empire Boulevard Intersection

Southeast Valley--- The intersection at Empire Boulevard and Ellsworth Road is temporarily restricted and closed to through traffic for the installation of a drainage culvert. During this activity, only right turns will be permitted from eastbound and westbound Empire Boulevard onto Ellsworth Road and only left turns will be permitted from northbound and southbound Ellsworth Road onto Empire Boulevard. Through traffic should use Riggs Road, Gary Road, Rittenhouse Road or Hunt Highway as alternate routes. The intersection will reopen by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.
