He kept his status secret, aside from close friends and family, until posting a picture this year. Andrew is seen holding an "HIV +" sign, while each of his family members holds an "HIV -" sign.

It was shared thousands of times on Facebook, and Andrew hopes it makes a point.

"It's all around us. HIV doesn't favor race or sexuality," he said.

He found out that he was HIV positive when he was 11 years old. HIs father passed away from an AIDS-related illness when he was four. His mother passed away when he was eight. Relatives raised him.

Now, at age 34, the virus is undetectable. Still, Andrew takes medicine and visits the doctor regularly to keep his HIV in check.

"As a teenager, I never imagined I could get married and have kids and have everyone be HIV-negative," he said.

AIDS Walk Arizona raises several hundred thousand dollars for Aunt Rita's Foundation, which supports 17 HIV and AIDS-related organizations.
