San Tan Valley 1st Grader Wins AZ529 Art Contest

San Tan Valley 1st Grader Wins AZ529 Art Contest

San Tan Valley's Alaina Lambert, a first-grader at Benjamin Franklin Charter School-Crimson Campus, is celebrating her win in the 2023 AZ529 Art Contest. Alaina was one of only 14 students chosen from across Arizona to receive the honor.

The AZ529 Art Contest is organized by the office of the Arizona Secretary of Treasury, Kimberly Yee. This year's contest saw entries from students across the state, including traditional public schools, charter schools, and home-schooled students. Two winners were selected for each grade, representing eight different counties across Arizona.

For Alaina, her win means she will receive $529 towards her own AZ529 Education Savings Plan. This is a huge boost for her future education, and her parents are thrilled with her success.

"We are incredibly proud of Alaina," said her father, Alan Lambert. "Every child needs some wins to grow their confidence to stretch beyond what they believe they can accomplish. We're grateful for the opportunity the AZ529 Art Contest has given her to start saving for her future education."

The AZ529 Education Savings Plan is a tax-advantaged savings plan that helps families save for their children's future education expenses. It can be used to pay for tuition, books, and other education-related expenses at eligible colleges, universities, and vocational schools. By starting to save now, Alaina and her family are taking an important step towards securing her future.

In addition to the financial benefits, Alaina's win in the AZ529 Art Contest is also a testament to her creativity and hard work.  Alaina's Art Teacher, Mrs. Kelli McNaughton,  encouraged her to try the contest.  "Alaina is a determined and imaginative student," said her teacher, Mrs. McNaughton. "We're thrilled that her talent has been recognized through this contest. It's a wonderful achievement for her and for our school."

Overall, the AZ529 Art Contest provides a valuable opportunity for students across Arizona to showcase their artistic talents while also promoting the importance of saving for education. Congratulations to all the winners, including San Tan Valley's own Alaina Lambert!
