Rural Metro Fire Brightens Holidays for Rocky Point Families Affected by Port Closure

RM-Rocky-Point

In a heartwarming act of community service and holiday spirit, Rural Metro Fire (RMF) Arizona has stepped in to bring cheer to families in Rocky Point, Arizona, who have been adversely impacted by the recent Lukesville port closure. The closure, which has halted tourism – a vital economic lifeline for the community – has left many local families, especially those working in area resorts, in a challenging position.

Understanding the hardships faced by these families, RMF Arizona took the initiative to donate toys to nearly 100 children in the Rocky Point community. This generous act of kindness was not just about giving toys, but also about delivering hope and joy in a time of need.

On December 18, representatives from RMF, embodying the true spirit of giving, personally delivered the toys, ensuring that they reached the families just in time for the holiday celebrations. In an additional gesture of festive goodwill, Santa Claus himself is scheduled to make a special appearance on December 23 to distribute the toys to the children, adding a magical touch to this noble initiative.

Shawn Gilleland, the public information officer for Rural Metro Fire, expressed his thoughts on the situation: "To have people so closely connected to our community experience this kind of stress, especially this time of year, is hard for our crews to accept. We are committed to not only serving our community but also the communities that surround us." This statement reflects the deep sense of responsibility and compassion that RMF holds towards not just their immediate community but also those in the surrounding areas.

The toy drive saw hundreds of toys being donated, thanks to the collective efforts of RMF first responders, United Maricopa/Pinal Firefighters Union Local 3878, their family members, and generous contributions from the community. This initiative underscores Rural Metro Fire's founding principle of serving others and showcases RMF Arizona's commitment to spreading holiday cheer and making a positive difference in the lives of those in need.
