Late Night Shooting at Gym Bar and Grill in San Tan Valley Leaves One Dead; Suspect in Custody

A tragic incident unfolded just before midnight on October 7 when the Pinal County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) responded to calls regarding shots fired at the Gym Bar and Grill located on Hunt Highway in San Tan Valley.

According to the PCSO, while deputies were en route to the reported shooting location, they were flagged down by witnesses near the intersection of E. Copper Mine Rd. and N. Epidote Dr. These witnesses promptly directed the deputies towards the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Travis Armstrong, who was found walking in proximity to the incident scene.

Armstrong was swiftly taken into custody without incident, and deputies secured the firearm believed to be used in the shooting. He has since been booked into the Pinal County Jail, facing charges of second-degree murder.

Simultaneously, additional PCSO deputies were dispatched to the Gym Bar and Grill, where they found the victim, 35-year-old Rogelio Ochoa. Upon their arrival, deputies immediately initiated life-saving measures on Ochoa, maintaining their efforts until medical personnel arrived at the scene. Despite the attempts to preserve his life, Ochoa was ultimately pronounced deceased after being transported to a local hospital.
