Clean Water Petition Created by San Tan Valley Residents

Clean Water Petition

Once they learned that the utility company had been aware of the situation but had failed to notify them of the high nitrate levels and they were only learning of the issue because ADEQ reached out to the media to notify the community, residents have been taking to social media to share their disappointment.

Many residents have threatened to stop paying their bills or start holding protests at the utility's Scottsdale office or local offices hoping their voice will finally be heard and someone will step in to address the many concerns they have.

"It's time to address this publicly and with the politicians we just voted in!" said one San Tan Valley resident.

"All we want is access to clean water," said another resident.

"We know that sometimes things can go wrong with utilities, but why can't the company let us know when there is a problem right away? Like they are supposed to" asked one San Tan Heights resident. "Why do we always have to find out from the media?"

While the community is waiting for results from ADEQ, they have decided to start collecting signatures and notifying elected officials of their concerns with an online petition.

Residents are encouraging others to sign and share the petition with their neighbors, family, friends and co-workers.  The petition states that the Arizona Corporation Commission has a statutory obligation to protect consumers, and wants the ACC to step in and address the many issues with Johnson Utilities. The goal is for the ACC to order a managerial audit of the utility company.

Residents may also file a complaint directly with ADEQ regarding water quality here.
