UPDATED: CAGRD Fees Going Down Again for San Tan Valley Residents

On February 4, 2020, the ACC approved the annual adjuster fee that Johnson Utilities proposed last October. The fee is based on actual water sold within the Johnson Utilities system along with the CAGRD's current rates – it is not related to EPCOR's interim management of Johnson Utilities

The CAGRD was established by the Arizona legislature to serve as a groundwater replenishment entity for its members, and it provides a mechanism for designated water supply providers such as Johnson Utilities to demonstrate a 100-year water supply. Members pay the CAGRD to replenish groundwater pumped by the member that exceeds the specified pumping limits. The CAGRD is recognized as an important tool in Arizona's groundwater conservation efforts.

Both the Phoenix AMA that covers San Tan Valley and the Pinal AMA which includes residents in Anthem will see a decrease in the CAGRD rates.  San Tan Valley residents will see the CAGRD rate decrease from $1.85 per 1,000 gallons to $0.76 per 1,0000 gallons. For customers in the Pinal AMA the rate will be decreased to $1.07 per 1,000 gallons from the current rate of $2.50.

The new amount will appear in the first customer billing cycle after February 4, and will be effective for the next 12 months.

The average Johnson Utilities residential customer using about 5,700 gallons of water every month will see a savings of roughly $6.21 to $8.15 a month, depending on which AMA they live in.
