Breaking News: Johnson Utilities Settlement Distribution Underway!

class-action

After years of legal proceedings and negotiations, the long-awaited Johnson Utilities settlement is finally in the process of distribution to customers who were affected by the company's fraudulent billing practices and environmental hazards.

The payments, which will be made by either credit or check, have been structured to correspond to each customer's specific account type (residential or commercial), water and/or wastewater usage, number of units, and period of use. Consequently, the amount that each customer will receive may vary greatly from others.

For Johnson Utilities customers who have continued with Epcor, the credit for the settlement should appear in their April Epcor bills. Meanwhile, for non-continuing customers who filed timely valid claims, the claims processor KCC will be issuing checks this month as well.

For those who were previously on Epcor's list but moved or otherwise ended their account but didn't file a claim, they have been restored to the claims list. However, for those with valid claims but whose current addresses are unknown, there will be a published notice to contact the claims processor.

The Johnson Utilities settlement stems from a class action lawsuit filed against the company by a group of customers who alleged that the company had engaged in fraudulent billing practices, charged customers for services that were not provided, and failed to maintain adequate infrastructure, which resulted in environmental hazards.

This settlement is expected to provide relief to many Johnson Utilities customers who were impacted by the company's practices, and is seen as a significant step forward in holding utility companies accountable for their actions. The settlement is also expected to send a message to other utility companies that fraudulent practices will not be tolerated and that they will be held accountable for any harm they cause to their customers and the environment.
