Board of Supervisors Feb 1, 2023 Meeting Recap

The Board discussed the performance bonus that was awarded to then Elections Director Virginia Ross after the 2022 November Election, with County Manager Leo Lew explaining the circumstances around the limited-term employment agreement, while County Attorney Kent Volkmer explained that Ms. Ross met the stipulations related to the bonus award laid out in her contact. The Board approved waiving attorney-client and work product privileges regarding the report of administrative investigation of complaints made by Amanda Stanford and Garland Shreves dated August 27, 2022, and directed the report to be released after February 15th, with any necessary redactions. (Item 4)

County Manager Leo Lew announced that Tascha Spears, Director of Public Health, is retiring from Pinal County on February 13th. Lew paid tribute to Dr. Spears and her impact on family advocacy centers, medical forensics, and public health. Dr. Spears, who joined Pinal County in 2014, took over as Public Health Director in 2020, leading the County through the vast majority of the Covid pandemic. (Item 11)

County Attorney Kent Volkmer updated the Board on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee (CJCC), its members, and its impact on Pinal County. (Item 6)

District 3 Supervisor Stephen Miller provided an update regarding the 2023 state and federal legislative session, bills, budget proposals, and pending actions. (Item 7)

County Manager Leo Lew informed the Board and the public that Supervisor Miller was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Greater Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce. A tribute video was played, which can be viewed here. (Item 2)
