Arizonans Now Have the Option to Add Licenses and State IDs to Google Wallet

Arizona residents are being given yet another innovative way to carry their identification. The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (ADOT MVD) recently announced that Arizonans can now add their driver's licenses or state IDs to Google Wallet. This makes it the third digital platform available to Arizona residents for this purpose.

Arizona introduced its mobile driver license system in 2021, and just a year later in 2022, Apple Wallet integration was added to the roster. The inclusion of Google Wallet is the state's latest move to provide more flexibility and choice to its residents.

"We're extremely proud to once again be pioneering in this digital arena by offering our residents the choice to add their IDs to Google Wallet," commented Arizona MVD Director Eric Jorgensen. "Our aim has always been to keep pace with technology and provide services that deliver convenience, security, and privacy to the people of Arizona."

This decision is in line with ADOT MVD's motto: "Out of the line and safely on the road." This sentiment reflects the department's dedication to minimizing in-office wait times and consistently expanding its digital offerings. One such recent development is the roll-out of digital driver licenses and identification cards.

Arizona joins a select group of states in the U.S. allowing its residents to add their MVD-issued driver's license or state ID to Google Wallet. Furthermore, these digital IDs can be securely used as valid identification at select TSA airport security checkpoints. However, the department still advises Arizona residents to carry their physical driver's licenses or state ID cards, especially for interactions with law enforcement and other scenarios where digital IDs might not be accepted.
