Today our young men and women are again losing limbs and lives abroad

These days we must activate these fortified human governing efforts as never before.

In my lifetime I’ve witnessed a Great Depression, a World War fought by a greatest generation that defeated fascism in Europe and Asia, and the end of a cold war that threatened humanity’s extinction.

Today our young men and women are again losing limbs and lives abroad, while at home families face life-threatening uncertainties and disturbing political ghosts from another place and another era.

Unlearned lessons have tragically led to a home-grown government that today is upending a hard-earned historic social contract unseen in our lifetime.

Sadly, we can no longer passively accept that ritualistic references to governing for the common good with help from a higher power will preserve our truly exceptional American way of life.

Governing crises are unfolding at an alarming pace as our nation’s petulant chief executive has begun dismantling basic longstanding policies affecting all of us.

In defense of social contract commitments that have uniquely made America great, I for one pledge to RESIST the methodic destruction of our nation’s quality of life. And I call on others to proclaim your resistance to the destruction of our nation’s unequalled experience in self governance.

The Board of Supervisors is Pinal County’s representative in our federal system. Board members are individually and collectively responsible for ensuring County residents do not become unwitting victims of extremist public policies that undo the cumulative exceptionalism reflective of past and present visionary Americans.

Healthcare, the first target for the newly empowered ideologue wrecking crew, is not a political issue. It is a life or death crisis facing too many vulnerable Arizona and Pinal County residents.

I challenge the Board to actively support its constituents’ access to medical treatment and to work for survival of health facilities in our rural communities.

Washington and Arizona officeholders, whose own health services are universally provided, must not be allowed to repeal the public’s affordable care without replacement.

At minimum, our Board of Supervisors should adopt a resolution supportive of maintaining the Affordable Care Act until an improved Trumpcare is adopted to satisfy both the critical health needs of our communities and the insatiable ego of our newly elected President.

Pinal residents, join in asking the Board to place this topic on their agenda for early action. They can be reached at the following:

  • Pete Rios, District 1 Supervisor phone: 520-866-7830 fax: 520-866-7838
  • Mike Goodman, District 2 Supervisor phone: 520-866-6211 520-866l-8081
  • Steve Miller, District 3 Supervisor phone: 520-866-7401
