Filmmaking with Drones Comes to Poston Butte High School

Bronco Studios, Poston Butte’s Digital Media Arts Program, hosted a series of workshops organized in partnership with the Copa Shorts Film Festival. The first workshop, taught by Steve Wargo, covered the use of drones in the entertainment and commercial industries and included a live interactive demonstration using three DJI Phantom 4 Pro drones.

This Thursday, Sept 20th at 9:00 a.m., the Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission will be asked to approve a zoning request. The request, being made by Blake McKee et al, is asking to rezone an area in San Tan Valley currently zoned as General Rural (GR) to General Commercial Zoning District (C-3) in order to build a commercial retail center on 3.6+ acres.  Some residents however are not pleased.

The Walker Butte Leadership School K-8 AVID Elective class has kicked off their first Service Project of the year. Students have chosen to create chemo-care packages to donate to the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center to help cancer patients feel more comfortable as they undergo chemotherapy and they are reaching out to the community for assistance in collecting items for the care packages.

Hearing to Decide if Johnson Utilities and It's Managers Should be Held in Contempt Set for August 24

During the Open Meeting held Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at the Arizona Corporation Commission, the Commissioners asked for a procedural hearing allowing an Administrative Law Judge to decide if Johnson Utilities and its managers could be held in contempt of court.  The request was made after Epcor, who had been appointed as an Interim Manager on July 26, 2018, reported that they still had not been granted access to Johnson Utilities' financial systems or accounts.

In a letter written to his Corporation Commission colleagues August 21, 2018, Commissioner Andy Tobin called for an emergency meeting to authorize issuing a search and seizure warrant on Johnson Utilities, LLC. The plea follows weeks of legal wrangling by the utility to avoid complying with a Corporation Commission order appointing EPCOR as an interim manager to run the company.

Today in Judge Stephen F. McCarville's court, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) was asking for a permanent injuction against Johnson Utilities, requiring the utility company to provide access to everything necessary for Epcor to act as Interim Manager.
