UPDATE: The staff open meeting scheduled for 2:30pm has been cancelled. The Arizona Corporation Commission has scheduled an Open Meeting for Staff to discuss two dockets opened regarding Johnson Utilities, Friday, July 6th at 2:30pm.
Representative T.J. Shope (R-8), along with Pinal County Supervisor Mike Goodman, today met with Arizona Corporation Commissioner Andy Tobin regarding water outages and pressure issues experienced by customers of Johnson Utilities in Pinal County.
The following letter was written by Commissioners Andy Tobin and Justin Olson, then filed with the Arizona Corporation Commission July 6th.  The letter addresses the Commission 's Investigation of the Billing and Water Quality Issues of Johnson Utilities WS-02987A-18-0050 as well as the Commission 's Investigation of Johnson Utilities, LLC Water Outages WS-02987A-I8-015.
With 539 fatal crashes on roadways within Pinal County between 2007 and 2016, the Sun Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization, in cooperation with Central Arizona Governments, Maricopa Association of Governments, and Pinal County, is developing a comprehensive Strategic Transportation Safety Plan.
The "Ghost Lobby" federal bribery trial against utility owner George Johnson, former Johnson Lobbyist, Jim Norton and former Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce and his wife Sherry Pierce ended June 29th and was put into the hands of the jury.  After a few hours of deliberation on the 29th, the jury left not only for the day, but for the next seven days, not reconvening again to deliberate until July 10th. 
A 326 page Recommended Opinion and Order (ROO) has been filed deciding whether or not an interim manager should be appointed to take over Johnson Utilities (DOCKET NO. WS-02987A-18-0050).
On June 6, 2018, Johnson Utilities LLC released a press release announcing "it is moving forward with plans to close its Section 11 Wastewater Treatment Plant (“WWTP”) located at 5452 East Hunt Highway."  In the release, Johnson Utilities acknowledged that the plant has been "at the center of odor complaints from nearby residents in recent years."
Prior to the July 16, 2018 evidentiary hearing regarding water outages, Johnson Utilities LLC filed a "Motion to Disqualify Commissioner Andy Tobin", claiming that "Tobin must be disqualified from further participation in this matter because he had at least one improper ex parte meeting with Supervisor Goodman discussing alleged water outages & pressure issues at Johnson Utilities - issues that are highly material to deciding whether to impose outside management on Johnson."
The federal trial charging Gary Pierce, Sherry Pierce, Jim Norton and Johnson Utilities owner George Johnson with conspiracy, bribery and mail and wire fraud has ended. After several attempts to reach a unanimous decision, the jury announced that it was deadlocked and a mistrial was called July 17, 2018.
A public meeting was held last week at Poston Butte High School to discuss a new project that wants to build in San Tan Valley.
The Arizona Corporation Commission Open Staff Meeting starts at 2 p.m. (or upon adjournment of the Open Meeting), Tuesday June 12th re: the Commission's investigation of the billing & water quality issues of Johnson Utilities, LLC and water outages.  Staff would like to receive more information on new evidence since the evidentiary hearing has ended.
After more than a year of extensions, the federal trial for Gary Pierce, Sherry Pierce, Jim Norton and Johnson Utilities owner George Johnson finally started May 30, 2018 with a day of jury selection.  The initial pool of 77 potential jurors was reduced to 12 jurors with 4 alternates, made up of 10 women and 6 men.
On June 8, 2018, the Utilities Division Staff of the Arizona Corporation Commission filed a Memorandum requesting that a new docket be opened to investigate the recent water outage due to a pump failure and to determine if Johnson Utilities, LLC has the necessary managerial and technical capabilities to operate water and wastewater systems.
An open meeting at the Arizona Corporation Commission was held Tuesday, June 12th and Johnson Utilities was item #20. While most of San Tan Valley has been watching the dockets concerning water and air quality issues, billing, water pressure, etc,  this docket (WS-02987A-06-6667)  was seeking an extension of a conditional Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CC&N) for Johnson Utilities.
While San Tan Valley residents wait to read the Recommended Opinion and Order (ROO) to be written by Adminstrative Law Judge (ALJ) Sarah Harping determining if an interim manager will be appointed to take over management of Johnson Utilities, Staff of the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) are determined to get all evidence to the ALJ before she writes her order.

About a month ago, a developer met with Pinal County to discuss a site plan pre-application for a potential project.  Unlike most developers who are looking to build homes in San Tan Valley, this developer has a different idea ... bring entertainment to the San Tan Valley community.
