A Special Open Meeting was held July 24, 2018 where the Arizona Corporation Commission voted to approve Administrative Law Judge Sarah Harpring's Recommended Opinion and Order to appoint an interim manager for Johnson Utilities.  The decision of whom to appoint was scheduled to be made July 26, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
On July 26, 2018, Rural Metro Fire Department crews from Station 844 in San Tan Valley, responded to a home on Terrace View for heat issues. Captain Payne and his crew found a family of 5 in a mobile home with no working A/C. Exterior temps were well over 110 and inside the home it was easily over 100 degrees.
Johnson Utilities LLC and the Pinal County Air Quality Control District meet weekly to review and discuss air quality data. The data is measured in ten-minute intervals and is collected at a monitoring station located near Johnson Utilities, LLC's Section 11 Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Pinal County limit for air quality regarding hydrogen sulfide is 0.030 ppb for a 30-minute average.
Around 6:30 p.m. the winds started rolling through San Tan Valley.  Minutes later with a crack of thunder, a monsoon storm dropped rain throughout the area.  As is typical with storms in our area, the storm hit some areas in San Tan Valley harder than other areas, uprooting trees and blowing over power lines.  Areas all over the community were losing power.  Traffic lights were out, trees were blocking roadways in some areas, while other roadways were closed due to flooding.

Attorneys for Johnson Utilities, LLC filed a lawsuit today accusing Pinal County Supervisor Mike Goodman of illegally trespassing to access Johnson Utilities’ fire hydrants for, what he claimed was water pressure testing, and used the information to defame Johnson Utilities by falsely reporting to various media outlets that certain, unidentified hydrants failed these tests.

On July 12, 2018, Sarah N. Harpring, Assistant Chief Administrative Law Judge - Hearing Division, A.C.C. , filed a Recommended Opinion & Order (ROO), requesting that an interim manager be appointed to manage Johnson Utilities. Now that the ROO has been filed, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) is set to vote - to approve or reject - the recommendation, Tuesday, July 24 at a 10 a.m. Special Open Meeting.
A press release from Johnson Utilites, LLC states that Johnson Utilities, LLC disputes the administrative law judge's proposed order and challenges the Corporation Commission's authority to install an interim manager.
At 2:40 pm on Monday July 23, 2018 the Pinal County Sheriff's Office responded to an accident near Bella Vista and Gantzel Road in San Tan Valley. The investigation revealed that a 15-year-old was heading southbound, on a skateboard, going against traffic when he was hit by a car heading north on Gantzel.
At 10:00 a.m. July 24, 2018, the Arizona Corporation Commission opened a Special Open Meeting for Docket #WS-02987A-18-0050, to either approve or reject the Administrative Law Judge's Recommended Order and Opinion to appoint an interim manager for Johnson Utilities. About an hour later, with a vote of 4-0, Chairman Forese and Commissioners Dunn, Olson and Burns voted to approve the recommendation to appoint an interim manager.

Hours before the scheduled 4:00 p.m. Arizona Corporation Commission Open Meeting where the decision will be made either selecting Epcor or the Town of Queen Creek and the Town of Florence, a lawsuit challenging the ACC's authority to appoint an interim manager as well as a Temporary Restraining Order to stop any decisions from being made was posted to docket WS-02987A-18-0050.
