On April 15th, 12 NEWS had asked for communities across the state, to submit a photo and a reason to feature their community on the station. Within minutes of the request, let 12 NEWS know how amazing San Tan Valley was.
On Thursday, March 12th, 2015 at 5:47 a.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was called to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision on Hunt Highway near Tumbling River Road, San Tan Valley.
Today, Dec 10th, started off as any ordinary day for Amber Murphy. She had to get her 6 year old daughter ready for school, help her 3 year old son get ready and prepare to go visit her husband, Dustin Murphy.  Dustin was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer 3 years ago and is currently at Lund Hospice. The only other thing Amber had to prepare for was an interview.   She had been contacted by Gradient Gives Back Foundation and they let her know that she was one of the finalists for an award. The Gradient Gives Back Foundation was formed to make immediate and real differences in the lives of families who have fallen on hard times and the Murphy's are one of those families.
Prevent Blindness America is pleased to announce that San Tan Valley resident Meikayla Mixon, age 12, has been voted “Most Beautiful Eyes” for the state of Arizona.  Through the national contest by Prevent Blindness America, Mixon received the highest number of online votes between Aug. 1-31, 2013. Mixon and all state winners will receive a free pair of Real Kids Shades (RKS) sunglasses and a copy of the new book, “Jacob’s Eye Patch” by Beth Kobliner Shaw and Jacob Shaw.  All state winners advance to the final round of judging for a chance to win a $10,000 educational scholarship from Marchon Eyewear. Additional contest sponsors include Eagle Eyes® Optics and Walters Golf.
County crews are preparing to apply chip seal to several roads in the San Tan Heights area.  The road resurfacing work is anticipated to last from Monday, June 10 to Friday, June 14. A protective rock and emulsion seal will be applied on the road surface to extend the life of the roads.  The application of this material is highly weather-dependent with ideal conditions taking place in the spring and fall.
Playing with your dogs in the backyard may not seem like a big deal, but it is to Kyle Carey, who had brain surgery three weeks ago. "My speech was so bad that a two-minute conversation would last about 10 to 20 minutes, with me trying to get out the words out," Carey said.
The Florence Unified School District and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received a report this morning of a man who approached a 12 year old female student at her bus stop near Walker Butte and exposed himself to her. The young lady is safe.
In 2004, Maricopa County’s Parks and Recreation Department began implementing San Tan Mountain Regional Park’s Master Plan. The Master Plan called for a main park entry, and proposed two secondary trailheads to provide additional access to the park. In response to public demand regarding access, and the need for interconnection with local and regional trail systems, the plan identified one trailhead in the northern portion of the park, and another along the southern finger.
Early Sunday morning, a bar fight at the Gym Bar, 2510 E. Hunt Highway, led to the bar manager being assaulted and a 56-year-old female bar patron hospitalized with serious head injuries. Two suspects were arrested at the scene.
Now that Halloween is over and candy is overflowing, a local dentist has redefined the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.”  This Monday, Nov 2nd, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Affinity Dental at 21321 E Ocotillo Rd Suite #130 in Queen Creek and receive $1 per pound.  Dr. Kelly B. Wettstein is leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and glowing electric toothbrushes in exchange for cavity-provoking candy.

A car crash ends with a car in a canal in San Tan Valley Thursday night. The crash happened around 9pm near Copper Mine Road and Hunt Highway.
The State Board of Education's Standards Development Committee will be holding a public input meeting on Arizona's Mathematics and English Language Arts Standards in San Tan Valley on November 2.
Members of a SanTan Valley family became honorary chairs of AIDS Walk Arizona, after a photo of them spread around the internet. Andrew Pulsipher has been living with HIV since he was born. His wife and three young children are all HIV-negative.
