Letter to the Editor: Say NO to Johnson Utilities

George Johnson certainly has a good friend in Mayor Tom Rankin. I wish I had a friend who would commit his family to buy my home at far more than it’s worth, let me live there and pay me a huge salary, agree to pay for anything that went wrong, and take on any liability. Not to mention that I would lend the money, and my friend would make his family pay me back at twice the market interest rate, even though some family members pointed out how ridiculous – and dangerous – this setup is.

Letter of Termination to the Second Amendment

Archeologist Allen Dart at Ventana Cave.

Dear Second Amendment,

I write this letter with compassion and empathy, because what I’m about to say may hurt your feelings. We’ve had a good run – I remember shooting beer cans off my neighbor’s porch like it was yesterday. I remember the bad times, too – weapons procured in your name have caused untold tragedies. We’ve had a long, turbulent history, so there’s no reason to delay the inevitable.  Second Amendment, you’re fired.

Kelly for Recorder

The Republican candidate for county recorder has stated that since one office is just like any other, the fact that she was a manager in a business office qualifies her for this job. She seems to have no concept of the importance of the records she would be responsible for, or the duty to protect the voter files.

Mr. Revelis, the ACLU and Paul Babeu

San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting for Mama Nina's Pizza & Wings

Who is Ruberto Revelis?  He’s often negative and continually attacks Sheriff Paul Babeu during public meetings and through Letters to the Editor.

Well, Mr. Revelis actually represents the ACLU.  He’s not just a member – he’s their President.  Not just for Pinal County, but for the entire state of Arizona.  This explains a lot.  The ACLU is a bunch of left wing kooks, who tear down America at every turn.

Mr. Cantrell is innocent

I know recently the story about Mr. Cantrell being banned from Walmart here in San Tan Valley has reached not only national news but international news as well. With each day that passes by, new pieces of what Walmart employees did in order to get Mr. Cantrell banned.

Montenegro, Melvin call for ‘Limiting Government Week’

June 25 we e-mailed our Republican colleagues in the State House and State Senate respectively to seek their support for what we are calling Limiting Government Week.

As Republicans, we are supposed to be believers in limiting government and maximizing individual liberty. As conservatives, it is not just a line in a party platform but a guiding principle.

Monahan's False Endorsement

I have worked with Jerald Monahan and until Monday I had respect for his opinions. My opinion of Jerald changed when I read his letter to the editor in Pinal County newspapers, endorsing Republican candidate for sheriff Jack McClaren.

Medicare hidden crisis

In 1966 Medicare was enacted and the system had been designed to be self sustaining. Like any insurance policy it relied on a large number of people to participate in order to be viable . As long as someone worked and paid into the system for a minimum of 10 years their part “A”, hospitalization was paid and they would have hospital medical insurance.

McClaren’s hate filled personal attacks need to stop

Ronald LeDuc

Jack McClaren desperate campaign has no plans to improve law enforcement, just personal attacks against Sheriff Paul Babeu and now against me, since I’m supporting the Sheriff for re-election.

McClaren for Sheriff

The BTA is 30 minutes east of Apache Junction.

I have known Jack McClaren for 10 years. I have had the pleasure of working at the same agency as he, and worked closely with him when he served as a bureau commander at the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

Matter of Opinion

Do You Know Who You Are Running Against?

Dear readers, registered voters and official candidates running for office in Arizona, 2012.

As a concerned citizen of San Tan Valley, I urge you all to consider getting to know your opposition and what they stand for in the upcoming election.  I’d highly recommend doing background checks on all fellow candidates; specifically for the one whose name I have refrained from publicizing for I am confident you will figure her out.  It has come to my attention through Facebook, her children and her ex-husband that she has “pulled papers” with intent to run for County Supervisor, District 2 in Pinal County.

Officer Involved Shooting

Alexis Martin, youngest girl in Arizona to be accepted into Mensa

Regularly, Pinal County Deputies face life threatening circumstances as they serve and protect the citizens of Pinal County. In some cases, deputies confront dangerous people and situations where they must act or react in a split second as lives hang in the balance. Each day officers act heroically to save lives. Any time an officer-involved shooting occurs, there are tragic circumstances. We are relieved that all of the public safety officers called out to protect and serve our citizens in the incident on January 14, 2014 in Eloy, Arizona are safe.

Offended by Johnson Utilities

These past 3 months or so I've been sharing my thoughts for those of us in the San Tan Valley area dealing with the issues of Johnson Utilities. Since May we dealt with the San Tan Heights ponds, and the low water pressure issues. In trying to get answers for several weeks we felt that we were hitting our heads against a brick wall. This seems to be the "straw that broke the camels back," along with a string of issues over the years that created our group, San Tan Valley Safe Water Advocates.

No confidence in the ability of Florence Town Council to make decisions in the public interest

A group organized through Facebook, claiming over 300 members, and calling itself San Tan Valley Concerned Citizens distributed an "Open Letter to our Friends in Florence" on Friday. The letter questions the wisdom of the purchase of Johnson Utilities by the Town of Florence, stating that the purchase could “affect the long-term trust relationship between San Tan Valley residents and the residents and government of the Town of Florence.” An advance copy of the contents of the letter was provided to the Florence Town Council early in the week as a courtesy to make sure they had their facts right.

New Traffic Lights Put Us All at Risk

This change has made life very difficult and dangerous due to the light only letting 4-6 cars through and staying red for turning cars when clear in the other direction.  In addition, they make the line even longer by bringing down to one lane merge long before needs to be done.  Every morning people in droves are now flying through the adjacent neighborhood at fast speeds to cut onto Empire.  This is putting children at risk who are walking to the bus stops.  Every morning I have 20-25 cars behind me waiting to turn.
