Area Info

I was lied to and treated with disrespect

My name is Tonya Hensley.  I live in Mesa, Arizona.

I am the widow of Chris Hensley who went missing on Monday, April 15th and was found on Friday, April 19th at the bottom of a 200 foot cliff at Superstition Mountain.

At 10:00 PM last Monday, I called the Pinal County Sheriff's Office to report my husband missing as of 5:27 PM that evening. I was assured by the deputy that he had “400 phone calls to make to get a search and rescue team and a helicopter out." On Tuesday I was informed that no helicopter had gone out nor had a search team.

I urge all Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to turn out to vote, and choose Ty Morgan in the voting booth.

Dear Citizens of Pinal County,

Time has passed and we are around to another sheriff’s election.  I hope this time we can get the vote right.  A man has entered the race, Ty Morgan, who brings 30 years of experience in law enforcement to the table.  He is a compassionate man, yet a very firm cop.  Some even say he is a “cop’s cop.”

I Support Tisha Castillo for Supervisor

I am writing to recommend Tisha Castillo for the position on the Pinal County Board of Supervisors. I have known Mrs. Castillo for 4 years and she is a highly qualified candidate. She has lived in San Tan Valley for 6 years and has repeatedly gone ‘above and beyond” to serve her community.

Johnson Utilities Supports & Funds Cheryl Chase

Mr. Block's drivers license photo

It's usually considered the kiss of death in politics to be endorsed by Special Interest.  Especially if it's a private entity who has a history of bucking the citizen's will and their government overseerers thru lawsuits and intimadation.

Job hunting

Manuel Vega is the former administrative assistant to Pinal County Supervisor Cheryl Chase. Vega is also a former employee of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

Vega was fired by Supervisor Chase last month and is now considering a run for a constable position in Apache Junction. That’s Precinct #7, where the Sheriff’s brother is Judge Shaun Babeu.

Jack McClaren is dedicated to his career and to his community

Apache Junction’s Colton Koesser (#17), with an assist from an unidentified teammate, makes a stop on a Florence ball carrier in last Thursday’s scrimmage

Spending the last 30 years in law enforcement in Pinal County I have worked with Jack McClaren on many occasions, as a Commander with the Eloy Police Department during joint operations, and during my 22 years as a member of the Pinal County Regional Swat team during critical incidents and tactical operations.

Dear Editor,

I’m demanding that Jim Walsh, a SB 1070 opponent, recuse himself from defense of the law based on his previous statements siding with the opponents of the law.

It's Your Turn, Before You Vote, Take Seven Minutes

In 1988, seeing court caseloads burgeoning with the population, Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank Gordon decided that a coordinated, long-range plan was needed to carry Arizona’s judicial system into the new millennium.  He appointed the Commission on the Courts, a 34-member “blue-ribbon” group from across the state to develop that plan, and to make specific recommendations for the judiciary to handle the growth and technological change coming at it, while constantly improving quality.  Eddie Basha served as Chair; Charles Ares (U of A College of Law) and the late Jack Whiteman (CEO of Empire Southwest) were Vice Chairs.

It is Time to Read About Me From Me

Former Pinal County Sheriff, Roger Vanderpool, was quoted in the Arizona Daily Star by Tim Stellar, “But let’s face it, he’s damaged goods. That makes him beatable,” when referring to re-elect hopeful, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu. I am concerned the race will be troubled by the broken items brought about by the sheriff, instead of a concentration on the distinction among the candidates for office.

It is time for meaningful compensation to become a reality in Pinal County

It is time for meaningful compensation to become a reality in Pinal County; it is time we are true to our own sense of right – because managing an organization is about people whether the organization is public or private.

It is my prayer that JU truly does want to better their relationship with the consumer public

It has now been over a month since our water pressure issues began in the San Tan Valley area.  A select few communities seem to be most affected over others.  Especially if your home happens to be situated, as mine is, on one of the higher levels of the community.

Mary Espinoza Opposes Florence Copper Mine - Demands Pete Rios to declare Conflict

Mary Bateman-Espinoza, Democrat candidate for Pinal County Supervisor, District #1 announced her opposition to the Florence Copper Mine.  The Florence copper mine is an “in-situ” copper recovery mining project owned and operated by Curis Resources Ltd.  The in-situ mining operation uses light acid that is pumped into the ground through the water table to the copper ore, where the acid dissolves all minerals (including copper) and then pumps it to the surface.  There are legitimate concerns about the contamination of the water table and about the condition of the ground surface of the mined area once the mine closes.  Concerns over the contamination of the water table are not restricted to the immediate area of the center of Florence.  Aside from potential problems for Florence, water purity could be compromised in Coolidge, in the Gila River communities and other neighboring communities.

Martin Luther King Day

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, also known as Civil Rights Day, is traditionally honored on the third Monday in January. This year it’s January 21, next Monday. It’s not an official national holiday, but rather a federal holiday.

The United States does not have any official national holidays, only federal ones. Most countries do have national holidays, and on those days, every citizen gets a paid day off. But, in the U.S., things are different.

Making Miracles

Christmas is not just a time for family and friends. It’s about what we do for others, helping each other. We all need miracles, and if you believe in miracles they can happen. Maybe that miracle is finding that one person you have been hoping to meet all your life. Or calling an old friend and having him or her over for Christmas.

Lucy Babeu Endorses Glenn Millsaps

As the voters of Pinal County look ahead to the primary, (I hope you have been watching the debates, but, even if you have not), the current Sheriff Paul, has been name calling, referring to the other candidates as "Stupid", Paul is still lying about the budget and telling everyone it is balanced and becomes very angry when challenged on it.

Letter writers support J.O. Combs override

Tori Broadley works on an assignment with her dad, Chris

Our family has been a part of the J.O. Combs Unified School District for five years. As we were looking for a home to buy, one of our top priorities was the quality of the surrounding public schools. We did our research and felt good about the area in which we chose to live. We have seen wonderful things happening within the district and know that the 5 percent override is essential in keeping sports and music programs available, lowering class sizes, and offering competitive salaries for the teachers. By offering competitive salaries, we ensure that we will continue to attract quality educators. Without the override, something will have to give - and it’s the children of this community who will pay.
