Christmas is not just a time for family and friends. It’s about what we do for others, helping each other. We all need miracles, and if you believe in miracles they can happen. Maybe that miracle is finding that one person you have been hoping to meet all your life. Or calling an old friend and having him or her over for Christmas.

I have read all the articles and mailings concerning the purchase of Johnson Utilities (JU) by the Town of Florence. I am totally mystified as to why our Town Council would even consider such an action. There are too many unanswered questions and risks. Why would George Johnson want to sell his company at an undervalued price? Is it because of the risk of liabilities facing JU?

I recently read an article which talks about the Town of Florence being on the rise. So I decided to see for myself what all the fuss was about. It is safe to say the writer of the bizjournal article must have never visited Florence or he would have had second thoughts about what he wrote. As I drove through the town a tear of disbelief began to trickle down my cheek.

I am writing to voice my objection to the sale of Johnson Utilities to the town of Florence.

How will a town of 4000 residents support and pay for this $221,000,000.00 liability? Why will no inspection of the infrastructure take place until after the sale? Is the sales price, the real value of Johnson Utilities? Can Florence lower financing costs (8%) on the open market? Why do the end users and subscribers (San Tan Valley) not have a say in the matter?

My husband Raymond and I relocated to Arizona five years ago to escape the cold weather. We have three grown children who all went through the public school system in Pennsylvania and have achieved successful lives. We believe that the public school system is an investment in our children and in our future. Two of our children received full scholarships to the University of Ne w Hampshire. We attribute this to excellent academic and athletic programs in their high school.

Mitt Romney was secretly filmed in Florida telling a room full of millionaire donors (at $50K per plate) that he believes 47 percent of Americans don’t pay taxes and would therefore vote for Obama no matter what so they can keep living off the government. They feel “entitled” Romney said.

On Wednesday, April 24, about 9:45 a.m., I was traveling west on Ocotillo. As I approached the Kenworthy intersection I saw ahead what I thought was a white dog on the north side of Ocotillo near the Arbor Avenue turn. In front of me was a car, a cement mixer, another car and a gravel hauler. I’m quite sure no one was driving the speed limit. As I got closer the shock hit me - what I thought was a small white dog was a very small child. All I could do was pray and I did so loud that God had to hear me. I kept repeating “don’t move, don’t move.” I’ve seen enough death in my life and this is not something I wanted to see again.

Fairytales and science are not mutually exclusive. The former may be a fabricated story and the latter a field in which theories are exhaustively pursued using a proven method of testing and experimentation. They are, however, intimately entwined in many ways.

Had I predicted ten years ago that a gay sheriff of Pinal County would be backing a “Dream Team” of political puppets featuring a County Attorney candidate with the same name as a  Star Wars character, most of you would have thought I should be locked away. But then, San Tan Valley didn’t exist ten years ago. And many of you still think locking me away is a great idea.

Freedom is supposed to be the cornerstone of our American Value System.  These freedoms should resonate with every aspect of our lives, whether professional or private.  These freedoms have eroded exponentially over the past decade, but Pinal County Government was not seriously affected, not until the bullying style of politics that Sheriff Paul Babeu brought with him.
