Why do most of us fail at every diet? Why do we spend hundreds of dollars on equipment, DVDs, supplements, and gym memberships only to fizzle out after a couple of weeks? The reason is our focus on results rather than making changes. Whether we recognize it consciously or not most of us want everything to happen right now. Sure I may have spent 10 years eating poorly and not exercising, but I just spent $600 on a treadmill and I want to get in shape NOW!  Don’t worry you are not alone. I think we are all guilty of this until we recognize the issue and move forward.

Tom Shanley calls himself a political junkie. Or at least that’s what he used to be.

For the past year, he has been having difficulty remembering things, like names and dates, even words.

“I find myself more and more lacking in conversation because I can’t think of a word that’s as simple as my name,” the 79year- old San Tan Valley man told the Independent during a phone interview. “I’m a political junkie and now I can’t remember what I want to tell the guy I’m arguing with over certain points. It’s frustrating.”

In a recent press release, Banner Health speaks about their recent decision to ban elective inductions of labor and elective repeat Caesarian sections before 39 weeks of pregnancy (seven days before the due date). A recent article at AZCentral.com reports this as a positive and innovative development. It is a positive development, but scarcely innovative – our Practice originated and strictly enforced this policy over four years ago, and it has since been adopted at several of the hospitals we use.

A portal just as is suggested by the Latin derivative, is basically a gateway or access into some space or situation.

Enter, the 21st Century! with yet another new technology: A Patient Portal. Alas! Patients can now enter and see aspects of their own health records online! Technology and the sometimes friction laden-ride with the practice of medicine may have found a perfect fit.  Medicine today as an art form has many antecedents from the past, from Hippocrates through the Renaissance and the post WWII era that still shape many aspects of patient care and health care delivery and research.

“If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude” - Maya Angelou

I am a strong believer in the power of Attitude. I have seen the power of attitude dramatically alter the lives of many, both positively as well as negatively. I imagine we can all think of a person that’s been through the ringer, kicked a few times when they’re already down, yet still gets up with a smile to go on. They’ve been given every reason to drown in self pity, yet they choose the better attitude. I believe a person’s attitude dictates the very path to which they achieve their highest success… or alternatively, wallow in what feels like a dark hole. Success doesn’t choose people, people choose success. Each of us holds the key to our own success in life, and this absolutely pertains to our own health & fitness.
