FUSD Response to Gun Photo Topic

I’m Gary Nine, Superintendent of Florence Unified School District. You may be aware that one of our students was suspended on Friday, February 1, 2013, because he had a photo of an AK-47 assault rifle as wallpaper on his netbook computer, which is issued and owned by the school district. All of our students agree to abide by an Acceptable Use Policy that outlines guidelines for student use of the district-issued computers. The Acceptable Use Policy provides that such computers are for student schoolwork and prohibits certain activities.

Rumor Control - G9

I just got off the phone with Dr. Pappalardo after being there myself this morning.

A Connect-Ed message below was sent out by Dr. Pappalardo this morning to PB parents and staff.  It accurately describes the situation.  In short, Dr. Pappalardo was first notified at 4:00 pm of the situation.  He and his staff with some assistance from Mark Lamas, our Director of Support Services and Transportation, and with great cooperation from the Sheriff's Office, was able to determine the source of the conversation about weapons.  The Sheriff's Office took quick and direct action and was able to get virtually to the bottom of the situation last night, enabling us to have a productive school day today.  While Dr. Pappalardo and his assistants were able to go home by 10:00pm the officers worked on into the night.

A Call to Common Sense - Part One

We have choices in life. This letter asks you to make one.

I’m writing to all Arizonans because I think it is time we choose.  Not Obama and not Romney, but Arizona and Arizona’s children.

Glad to See that the Town of Florence has Chosen to do the Right Thing

I am glad to see that the town of Florence has chosen to do the right thing and rescind their annexation ordinances.

Most of the people who followed the facts of the case and examined the requirements of the law did not think Florence had any choice but to rescind the ordinances. Apparently, so did the town of Florence.

Are Your Tax Dollars Best Spent on Another Helicopter?

At last week’s meeting of the county Board of Supervisors, the Board was asked by Sheriff Paul Babeu to approve without discussion, an item that appeared to be a simple bookkeeping transaction to facilitate use of insurance proceeds to replace a Sheriff’s Office helicopter that crashed June 25, 2013 on an apparently routine maintenance flight.

Are Investigations Proceeding?

It’s been four weeks since the public was told that investigations of Sheriff Paul Babeu were being undertaken by the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys' Advisory Council’s Public Integrity Task Force, and by Arizona Solicitor General Dave Cole.

Because allegations surrounding the Sheriff involve possibly improper use of county equipment and/or public resources, it is to be hoped that the Pinal County Attorney has taken steps to caution Mr. Babeu not to erase or otherwise tamper with contents of his computer or other electronic devices.

Amnesty to those with friends in high places?

Pet Therapy Team, MiMi and her 8 yr old, boxer/lab mix named Chili, who works with students in Apache Junction

We began last month by proudly celebrating our nation’s 237th birthday.  And interestingly after all these years, there are those who proclaim that we are still an experiment in self-government; a test of whether we are governed by the rule of law and not by men.

Adam4Adam rehabilitation tour

Sheriff Paul Babeu’s desperate Adam4Adam rehabilitation tour continues to drive the embodiment of ethical conduct into previously unreached heights of self-delusion.

It’s time for the Board to say no to the budget-busting Sheriff.

It’s interesting, but costly, to note that the campaigning Sheriff Paul Babeu, who decries federal government expenditures and who bemoans federal stimulus funding, does not hesitate to come, hat in hand, seeking approval for raking in yet another round of federal funds from the U.S. Marshal, from the federal Justice Department and from RICO.

Is it a "Studboi" Recovery?

The indefatigable, well-funded and self-effacing “call me Sheriff Paul” continues his taxpayer-funded rehabilitation tour as he seeks to recover from his “studboi” days on the internet.

Insufficient Evidence

Last week we learned that criminal charges will not be pressed against Sheriff Babeu’s spokesman, Tim Gaffney, for deleting thousands of emails from his PCSO computer.
