The US Marshals Service Violent Offender Taskforce – Pinal apprehended Joshua Angell, 31, on Thursday as a result of a June 5 indictment, filed by the Pinal County Attorney’s Office, for child abuse involving his 4 year old daughter. According to the Probable Cause statement, the alleged child abuse occurred on April 20, 2013.  Records state that Angell was “celebrating ‘4-20’” by smoking “high-grade weed” and after his daughter soiled herself, he picked her up by the throat to change and clean her and her face struck a door jamb causing injury to her cheek and eye area.

Use of Fireworks Banned in Unincorporated Pinal County, Most Public Lands Due to the extreme fire risk and the fact that nearly one million acres have already burned in parts of Arizona, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors enacted a ban on the use of consumer fireworks.  While Arizona Revised Statutes 36-1606 made it possible for people to purchase consumer fireworks, the statute also allows counties to ban the use of fireworks if a “reasonable risk of wildfires” exists. While it is not against the law to purchase fireworks, discharging them in unincorporated Pinal County is against the law while the ban is in effect.  The Board can lift the ban in the future when the risk has subsided due to increased rains.

On this date, Lance Corporal Lawrence Short, USMC, assisted by Sgt. Robert Delsi of the Marine Corps League arrived at our Fire Station shortly before Noon on this Hallowed Christmas Eve to collect the Bin and any contents under the “Toys for Tots” program. After arriving to find an empty bin outside and immediately describing the lackluster support received so far in collecting other bins from various locations in and around Casa Grande, they were simply amazed and in disbelief by the fact we had the best turnout from residents in the Signal Peak area as we had been routinely sequestering all of the toys, and bicycles, inside the Fire Station for safe keeping until collection.
A former chief investigator for the Pinal County Attorney's Office who was fired after County Attorney Lando Voyles took office has received a $100,000 settlement. The Casa Grande Dispatch reports that a multi-county insurance pool agreed last summer to the settlement with James McCormack. He was one of many office employees discharged shortly after Voyles took office Dec. 29, but a county commission later ruled on an appeal by McCormack that he was a merit-protected employee.
An early-morning fire destroyed this mobile home in Apache Junction on Tuesday. A family lost all it had after a fire destroyed a mobile home in Apache Junction early Tuesday morning. A final Apache Junction Fire District 2012-2013 budget of $18,105,479 was approved on a 3-1 vote at a July 3 Fire Board of Directors meeting with Director Todd House casting the dissenting vote and Director Linda Shank absent from the meeting. Following House’s “nay” vote on the budget, Clerk of the Board Mike Weaver stated, “Let the record note that Mr. House has participated in formulating this budget. Perhaps his ‘no’ vote was done for political reasons?”
My Friends, It has been more than four years since we first met on the campaign trail.  In that time we’ve experienced a lifetime of adventure, success, failure, passion, compromise, satisfaction and disappointment.  To you all, I say “Thank you.”  Thank you for giving me the honor of serving as your representative in the democratic process.

A newly married Florence couple made an appearance on NBC's "Today" show after swirling billows of dust blanketed their wedding last month. Gus and Jennifer Luna in Florence got married outdoors on Sept. 10. A slight breeze blew through the ceremony at the beginning of the nuptials, but within a couple of minutes, unrelenting wind and dust was pounding the bride and groom, swirling her veil in circles as a bridesmaid attempted to hold it down. The groom, meanwhile, was trying to rub the dirt out of his eyes.
An Administrative Law Judge delayed the start of the administrative evidentiary hearing with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, to March 18, 2014 because Florence Copper Inc. failed to timely produce actual test data and interpretive reports from a prior in-situ leach pilot test.  The 15-day evidentiary hearing had been set to begin on November 18th.  Appellants including the Town of Florence, Southwest Value Partners, Johnson Utilities, and Pulte Homes had repeatedly requested this critical data for several months.  Florence Copper Inc. (FCI), formerly known as Curis Resources (Arizona), filed a motion to block production of this real-world data.  The judge denied FCI’s efforts to keep this data hidden and ordered that it be fully disclosed.
In July 2010, less than 2 years ago, Florence Community Healthcare, a 23-bed hospital in Pinal County, opened its doors to provide care for the town's residents. Prior to the facility opening its doors, residents were forced to travel to Casa Grande or Phoenix for treatment. This week however, the same healthcare facility closed its doors and moved its patients to other healthcare facilities.
