City of Mesa Begins Natural Gas Pipeline Construction Near Ironwood and Gantzel Roads
The City of Mesa has begun construction on a new natural gas pipeline near the Ironwood and Gantzel Road area, which may impact travel for San Tan Valley residents.
The project, being completed by Achen-Gardner Construction, includes work in two main areas:
- Along Pima Road, from Meridian Road to Ironwood Road
- Along Ironwood/Gantzel Road, from Pima Road south to Combs Road
Construction began during overnight hours and is taking place at night only to help reduce daytime traffic impacts.
Work along Ironwood/Gantzel Road is scheduled:
- Sunday through Friday nights
- 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Crews are boring a tunnel under Ironwood/Gantzel Road to install the natural gas pipeline. Traffic control devices are removed during daytime hours so the road can return to normal travel conditions.
Ironwood/Gantzel Road remains open to traffic during construction. However, drivers should expect:
- Lane restrictions
- Possible turn restrictions
- Shifts in traffic patterns near work zones
Business and residential access will continue to be maintained.
The project is expected to be completed in mid-2026.
Residents with questions about the project can contact the project information line at 480-898-4100.
