Hunt Highway Phase 4 & Gantzel Road Improvements Project UPDATE

Construction continues as any remaining utilities relocate their facilities to accommodate the project. This work is primarily taking place off the roadway; however, there are traffic barricades set up at the shoulder to protect the work zone.

Work also continues on remaining elements of the retention basin, channel and access road north of Magma Road on the west side of Hunt Highway.

Contractor crews continue work on New Magma Irrigation & Drainage District (NMIDD) channel improvements, with work taking place to excavate the embankment for the access road along the channel, primarily near Johnson Ranch, Quartzsite and Magma Road. This work is taking place off the roadway; however, there may be traffic barricades set up at the shoulder to protect the work zone.

Construction crews continue work constructing the extension of Gantzel Road from Omega Drive to Hunt Highway at Johnson Ranch Boulevard. Crews are currently building the subsurface of the new roadway and preparing the area for aggregate and asphalt pavement. Scheduled to begin late this week, crews will begin work at the Hunt Highway/Johnson Ranch Boulevard intersection to conduct removals and begin reconstruction to be able to make the connection for the future Gantzel Road extension. Hunt Highway and Johnson Ranch Boulevard are expected to remain open throughout the work; however, traffic control will be in place to shift travelers away from the work zone. Left turns will not be permitted for north bound Hunt Highway at Johnson Ranch Boulevard during this construction activity. Magma, Thistle Trail or Golf Club may be used as alternate routes during this time.

The Gantzel Road extension is expected to be open to traffic April 2018. At that time, all Hunt Highway traffic will be routed onto Gantzel Road to allow the contractor to begin work on Hunt Highway between Johnson Ranch Boulevard and Red Road.

Hunt Highway remains open for travel with one lane in each direction during this work, and business and resident access is being maintained.

Thank you for your patience during this construction!
