Walk/Run in Support of Survivors of Suicide Feb 6th

Connected by grief and unexplainable loss, the three helped start a place to gather with others who are linked by the tragedy of suicide. No matter who you are, where you are from, your socioeconomic standing - you can be impacted by suicide. And for every individual lost, there is a uniquely challenging story. There is no one reason; no one answer.

Awareness and education is the key.

The community is invited to attend the 10th Annual Jeremyah 5k Memorial Walk/Run on Saturday, February 6th at 8am at Tempe's Kiwanis Park.

The walk supports La Frontera - EMPACT-Suicide Prevention Center and its mission to build a safe, strong, and healthy community by helping Arizona youth and adults cope effectively with the challenges of life. This is achieved through compassionate and innovative prevention, counseling, crisis and training services.

The 10th Annual Jeremyah 5K Memorial Walk/Run to Support Survivors of Suicide, is a day to honor those who have died by suicide, to increase awareness about the issue of suicide, and to raise dollars to make sure programs are available for those struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, and loss. Ten years ago a man who lost his son, and a woman who lost her sister came together to create the walk to bring attention to this tragic issue, and provide healing through community.

There are currently more than 40,000 suicides annually in the USA, and over 1,100 suicides in Arizona. It is estimated that for every suicide there are at least 25 loved ones left behind. We call them survivors. Based on this estimate, it has been suggested that there are now at least 4.5 million American survivors of suicide.

There will be a variety of ways for participants to honor their loved ones and prevent the ranks of "survivors" from growing in the future:

Special 10th Anniversary Tree Dedication Ceremony
Mayoral Proclamation
Candle/balloon and community ceremony
Family and friends walking as teams and as a broader community
