‘Switching To Manual’ Camera Class

Michael Madsen will coach beginner to intermediate photographers. Photo by Sonja Bowers

On Saturday, June 30, he’ll coach beginner to intermediate photographers who are ready to bypass the auto settings in favor of controlling their own aperture, shutter speeds, ISO and white balance.

Held at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park, the class runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will be followed by a lunch break at one of Superior’s local restaurants.

The next two hours, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., will be spent in the gardens where “we’ll switch your camera to manual mode and take charge of your camera, exploring the creative side of photography,” Madsen said. “You’ll be taught how to adjust your camera settings, and the photographic effects that occur based on these settings. Heading outdoors after lunch allows us to apply techniques students have learned, and  experiment with camera settings together, and one-onone.”

Class registration is $39 (or $30 if you're among BTA annual members); to register for this workshop have a credit card ready and call Boyce Thompson Arboretum at (520) 689-2723 during daytime business hours from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Read about other camera classes and weekend nature walks at ag.arizona.edu/bta; connect with volunteers and staff at facebook.com/boycethompsonarboretum.

The arboretum, located a 30-minute drive from Apache Junction, is at 37615 U.S. Highway 60 in Superior.
