Combs Traditional Academy will hold a Flag Ceremony on Tuesday, November 10 at 8:30 a.m. to commemorate Veteran's Day. As part of the ceremony, general music teacher Wendell Porterfield will perform a patriotic song for the student body, students will recite the Pledge of Allegiance, hear a recitation of the Presidential Proclamation honoring Veteran's Day, and observe a short readers theater performed by selected students on "What is a Veteran?"
Ellsworth Elementary - An assembly filled with music, poems, and celebration is scheduled November 10 at 1:45-2:45 p.m. After the assembly, Ellsworth invites veterans to join their student in the class for questions and answers.
Harmon Elementary will host a special assembly on Tuesday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. This assembly will include a presentation from the Combs High School ROTC, a veteran guest speaker, and a special slideshow honoring Harmon's own servicemen and women. The assembly is open to Harmon families and students will honor all servicemen or women in attendance. In addition to the assembly, student council has asked classrooms to create cards for the Veteran's Hospital and is collecting items the hospital is in need of. All of these items will be donated by November 6.

Simonton Elementary - On November 9, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) members will conduct a flag raising ceremony at the commencement of the school day. Following the ceremony, the VFW members will spend time with Simonton’s Patriotic Student Leader Group and will teach them the proper procedure for raising and lowering the flags. The Patriotic Student Leader Group will then take over flag responsibilities for the rest of the year. On November 10, members from the Joe Foss institute will be speaking with students about patriotism at an assembly (8:30-9:30 a.m. for Grades 1,2,3 & 6 and 9:30-10:30 a.m. for Grades 4, 5 & Kindergarten). Combs High School Color Guard will be presenting the colors at the assembly.
Combs Middle School is accepting donations of new non-white socks (dark colors or tan) and new unopened toothbrushes for their community service opportunity, Sock and Toothbrush Drive for Servicemen, sponsored by National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). The drive will take place Novemer 2-12. The items will be sent to deployed service persons via Operation Gratitude.
Combs High School will be sending postcards to all veterans that are family members of Combs students. The postcards, which will be used to thank veterans for their service and invite them to attend any winter sporting event for free, will be mailed Monday, November 9. The postcards are designed by CHS graphic design students.
J.O. Combs District Office staff will be participating in school events and wearing red, white, and blue on Tuesday, November 10th.
