Cash for Candy

“Ditch the candy, that’s what we’re saying.  Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets would really give your teeth a healthy boost,” said Dr. Wettstein of Affinity Dental.  “Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well.”

Global sugar consumption by kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their children’s teeth are being cared for more than ever.  Candy, as well as hurting teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain.  “In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces” adds Dr. Wettstein.

All candy donated to Affinity Dental is donated to the U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan through Operation Gratitude. “We have been holding this event for 5 years and collected over 1400 pounds of candy last year alone. That made a lot of Christmas baskets for our troops”, said Dr. Wettstein.

Candy will be collected at Affinity Dental Monday, November 2nd from 5:00-7:30p.m.  In addition, the food trucks Carh’s Kitchen and Waffle Love will be there for dinner, and prizes will be up for grabs for attendees! The donated candy must be unopened. Please no bites!  It will then be shipped to troops overseas.
