COVID-19 UPDATE: This year's 6th Annual Joe Foss Fishing Derby has unfortunately been cancelled, due to the guidelines giving by the CDC for these types of events. The safety of attendees, children, and volunteers must always come first.

We are seeing if this event could happen later on in the year.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for your understanding

The Joe Foss American Legion in partnership with Johnson Ranch will be hosting its 6th Annual Youth Fishing Derby Saturday, April 4, 2020. The event will be held at the Johnson Ranch Catch & Release Fishing Pond, located at the South end of the Greens Park.

Registration will begin at 8:30 am and fishing starts at 9:00 am. This event is free of charge to all youth under the age of 18.  This free event will be open to the first 100 registrants in three age categories: 8 and under, 9-13, and 14 to 17. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals will be awarded who catch the largest fish (based upon weight) before being returned to the water. Each registrant will receive a free hot dog, chips and drinks. Adults will be able to purchase hot dogs, chips and drinks from the Joe Foss American Legion Riders.

Kids are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles, but the group will have some poles on hand for use. Bait will be extremely limited, so each contestant is also encouraged to bring his/her own bait (treble hooks not allowed on lures).

The Joe Foss American Legion Post 97, was founded in June, 2009, our mission is to service local veterans with support services and the region's youth with activities like fishing.

Co-sponsors of the event include Johnson Ranch, San Tan Valley Veterans Center and Atlas Pediatric Dental Care.
