Teen Found Injured on Road Near Gary and Empire Has Died
The 16-year-old boy found with life-threatening injuries in the road on Murray Grey Drive late Thursday night has died, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said Friday night.
Deputies were called to Murray Grey Drive, near Empire Boulevard and Gary Road, at about 11:30 p.m. Oct. 1 for a welfare check and found the boy in the road. He was flown to a Valley hospital. According to the sheriff's office, his injuries appeared consistent with being hit by a vehicle, and other possible injuries were under investigation.
Detectives took three other boys, all juveniles, into custody for questioning overnight and later released them while the investigation continues. The sheriff's office said everyone involved knew each other.
The sheriff's office has not announced any charges or released the names of anyone involved, and said no further updates were expected Friday night. SanTanValley.com first reported the incident Friday and will update this story as more information is released.
Detectives have asked anyone with information to call the Pinal County Sheriff's Office at 520-866-5111 and ask for Detective Ramon Gonzalez.
