Free Appraisals as The Local Jeweler Buys Gold and Silver

The Local Jeweler is buying gold, silver and collectables this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19, and appraising what you bring in at no charge.

It is the first buying event the shop has held. Both days run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at their store on North Gary Road.

What They Are Buying

The shop is taking scrap gold and silver, bars, coins and collectables. That covers broken chains, single earrings that lost their match, and pieces too damaged to wear.

They have said no collection is too small. The range runs from a handful of broken chains up to high end watches.

The Appraisal Is Free, and It Is Verbal

Every item gets a free verbal appraisal. Someone at the shop looks at what you brought and tells you what it is worth, on the spot, at no cost. Verbal means they say the number out loud and hand your pieces back.

There is no obligation to sell. You can hear the number and take your things home.

Bring anything you are unsure about. Costume pieces and plated items sit in almost every jewelry box, and an appraisal is how you find out which is which.

The Hours Run Later Than Usual

The shop normally closes at 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Both event days run until 6 p.m., so Saturday stays open two hours past its usual close.

The Shop Behind the Event

Murat and Jennifer Ozuzun opened The Local Jeweler on Gary Road in January 2025, after moving to Copper Basin in 2023 from Skagway, Alaska. Murat has worked as a master jeweler since 1982.

Their workshop is on site, so repairs and custom work are done in the building. We covered their grand opening in 2025 and their first customer appreciation day this past June.
