REMINDER: Public Hearings to be held in San Tan Valley for Johnson Utilities Request for Rate Increase

On December 29, 2017, Johnson Utilities filed a request with the Arizona Corporation Commission for a "determination of the fair value of its water and wastewater utility plant and property, for increases in its rates and charges for water and wastewater utility service, and for related approvals". In other words, they filed for a rate increase.

The 473 page document can be viewed here.

In the request, Johnson Utilities claims that the company's operating expenses have outpaced increases in revenues since the last rate case.  As a result, Johnson Utilities is requesting rate increases for both its water and wastewater divisions.

For wastewater, the present monthly bill for a residential customer is $40.98.  Johnson Utilities is requesting an increase of $7.23 or 17.64% above the present rates, making monthly wastewater service $48.21.  For water, the present monthly bill for a 3/4-inch metered customer using an average of 6,380 gallons is $29.10.  Johnson Utilities is requesting an increase of $6.87 or 23.62% above present rates, making this example water bill $35.97.  In addition, Johnson Utilities is proposing changes to its service line and meter installation charges, as well as changes to other miscellaneous charges.

While most public hearings for rate cases are held at the Arizona Corporation Commission office in Phoenix, six public hearings will be held in San Tan Valley on Feb 20th & 21st (three hearings each day).  Any customers who have a desire to share their views regarding the proposed rate increase by Johnson Utilities, are encouraged to attend and speak at any of the hearings.

Requests to intervene have been filed by several parties, including Swing First Golf, LLC, owners of the Johnson Ranch Golf Course.  If you'd like to file a complaint online, you may do so here.  Be sure to include Docket No. WS-02987A-17-0392 in the comments.

The notice of the hearing is posted below.
