U.S. Department of Labor Grant helping CAC students improve their skill set

The classes, labeled SKL115 and SKL116, are offered at CAC’s Corporate Center in Casa Grande that is located on Florence Boulevard Exit off of Interstate 10.

Each class consists of three credit hours and students can earn the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) by taking the nationally-recognized ACT WorkKeys Assessment.

“When you are ready to get a job, these classes are essential,” Peter Combs, project coordinator of the renewable energy program at CAC, explained. “We had a student who interned and then went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture after taking these classes.”

SKL115 (Job Readiness I) certifies a person’s existing job skills. Employers commonly ask, “How can I tell if someone has the abilities their resume lists?”

During the class, students improve their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; learn how to effectively use work-related text and documents to solve problems; and apply their math reasoning in problem-solving and work-related calculations.

The class meets every Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 21 through Oct. 11, from 5-8:30 p.m.

SKL116 (Job Readiness II) focuses on resumes, interviewing, networking and soft skills such as stress management. This class also meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5-8:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 16 through Dec. 6.
