Roy Lewis, NFL Cornerback Honors Champion San Tan Valley Students

Roy Lewis, surprised the Champion School students during their first Pillar assembly of the year, celebrating HEART . Champion Schools celebrates 10 Pillars in their Character Building Program. Roy spoke to the students about what it means to have HEART --- Giving your best effort and never giving up.

He described how HEART contributed to his NFL experience and how it felt to win the Super Bowl. At the end of the assembly he signed autographs and answered  questions from the students. It was an amazing visit for ALL. Roy played for the Pittsburgh Steelers (2008-09) which led him to his first Super Bowl in 2009 and then played for the Seattle Seahawks (2009-11)! After his NFL career Roy became a Firefighter for the Phoenix Fire Department with Coach Andrew Johnson, the Athletic Director at Champion San Tan Valley.
At Champion Schools there are 10 Pillars in What Makes a Champion: Heart, Effort, Hard Work, Courage, Teamwork, Sacrifice, Persistence,Passion, Discipline and Determination.

During the Assembly, students were recognized that displayed HEART , during the first month of school. These students were recommended by their teachers, and include those who treat others with respect, demonstrate best effort in their schoolwork, show best physical effort in workouts. Three outstanding students per grade level are honored at every Pillar Assembly throughout the year.

Champion thanks special guest Roy Lewis for taking the time to attend the HEART Pillar Assembly. Principal, Mrs. Lewis says "Congrats to all of our students, we are proud of you!" Champion plans to bring in more guest speakers to inspire students to always do their best at home and at school. Speakers will share how the qualities described in the Pillars have helped them achieve their life goals and hope to motivate students to do the same, during the Character Building Pillar Assemblies.
