During the week of March 5th-9th Harmon Elementary participated in a “penny war” against the other schools in our district. The purpose of this competition was to raise money for the American Cancer Society. I am proud to announce that Harmon Elementary was the winner of this competition that supported this very worthy cause.
The staff and I are very appreciative of all the family support provided for students related to our Absolutely Incredible Kid Celebration on March 9th. Taking time to write short, positive notes to your children is a great way to demonstrate your love for them and how much you support them in their education. We plan to continue this tradition again next year.
To get our students pumped up for their statewide assessments we had motivational classroom
visits where our younger students went to the upper elementary students’ rooms and wished them luck before taking the Stanford-10 and AIMS assessments. It was really great to see our youngest Hawks deliver “good luck” letters and do little cheers for our upper elementary students. To complete our test prep week the students participated in some very fun and competitive Pep Rally Relays out on the field. I am pleased to announce that our students and staff did a great job with their assessments. I did several classroom drop-ins and our students were very focused and working hard on all of their tests. We had excellent attendance for assessments testing over 99% of our students. The results of these tests will be available this summer.
During the summer months it is common for students to look forward to their break from school. I would like to encourage that all parents make it a priority to have their child spend some time each day on reading. We want to be sure that our students continue to make progress with their fluency and read- ing is a great way to learn about many different places, people, and interesting things.
I hope to see all parents and other family members at our 4th quarter awards assembly on May
24th.
