Leading Edge Academy Mountain View Gives Back

Leading Edge Academy Mountain View Gives Back

The entire student body collected more than 35 bags of gently used clothing for Redeemed Threads, a non-profit thrift store providing financial support to the new San Tan Valley Compassion Care Center. Additionally, numerous grade-level specific projects were accomplished.

  • Kindergartners worked together making no-sew fleece blankets for the New Mercies Pregnancy Center. Located in San Tan Valley, the center provides community resources to encourage, educate, and equip families.
  • The first grade classes collected household supplies for donation to the local Ronald McDonald House as well as creating handmade cards for parents staying there during their children’s medical stays at the hospital.
  • Rio Vista Center in Phoenix is the recipient of the second grade project in which they created packs that contained water bottles, granola bars, and socks which will be distributed to individuals in the homeless population.
  • Applying the math and science knowledge gained while participating in the Bake for Good Kids Program, third graders baked bread and donated the loaves to the Food Pantry at Mountain View Church.
  • Fourth and Fifth graders joined together to volunteer in a meal-packing session at Feed My Starving Children located in Tempe. In addition to the meal-packing session, Leading Edge Academy donated more than $1,700 to FMSC from the proceeds of their weekly Dollar Dress-Down Days, where students can pay a dollar to not dress in uniform that day.
  • Pets at local animal shelters will benefit from the no-sew blankets created by our middle schools students (grades 6-8). When the pets are adopted, the blankets will go with them to their forever homes.

“It was really neat how the whole school worked together to give back in different ways,” said Hannah, a fourth grader at Leading Edge Academy. “Sometimes we don’t even think about all the stuff we have, and other people don’t have as much as we do. I’m glad we get to help.”
