The J.O. Combs Unified School District is celebrating as John Scrogham, its Coordinator of Career and Technical Education (CTE), has been elected as the President of the Arizona Council of Occupational/Vocational Administrators (ACOVA) for 2024. ACOVA is a prominent statewide organization that focuses on enhancing the capabilities of Arizona's CTE administrators, supporting them in effectively leading CTE programs within their respective school districts.

Scrogham has been instrumental in managing and developing Combs High School's CTE programs, which comprise an array of 13 distinct courses that include fields such as healthcare and digital communication. The programs are tailored to furnish students with the skills and acumen necessary for gaining employment in various burgeoning industries.

Notably, under Scrogham's guidance, Combs' CTE programs have been consistently surpassing state averages. A remarkable 87% of students participating in these programs earn industry certifications before they graduate from high school.

Dr. Gregory Wyman, Superintendent of the J.O. Combs Unified School District, praised Scrogham's contributions, stating, "Student success is at the center of everything we do at Combs and John's leadership in CTE is a critical piece of this work. Year over year, the accomplishments and success of our CTE programs continue to exceed expectations, and I know that John will continue to amplify this great work statewide as the incoming President of ACOVA."

John Scrogham expressed his gratitude for the mentorship he received through ACOVA and conveyed his eagerness to reciprocate. "Over the years, I have been the beneficiary of invaluable mentoring from other CTE administrators through my membership with ACOVA. I'm honored to now have the opportunity to contribute to this talented group of professionals and serve as an advocate for CTE leaders across our state," said Scrogham.

ACOVA plays a significant role in building community, advocacy, and leadership among CTE administrators in Arizona. The council organizes multiple professional development opportunities across the state, facilitating networking and information exchange that impact CTE administrators. These platforms also serve as a breeding ground for mentorships that help administrators grow and develop their CTE programs.

"As a leader in our state, I hope, with the efforts of the rest of the ACOVA board, to provide CTE administrators with the support they need to be successful," Scrogham said, elucidating his vision for his tenure as President.
