A dedication was held this week at the first utility-scale solar project in Queen Creek, AZ. The PSEG Queen Creek Solar Farm, located on 148 acres of land about 30 miles southeast of Phoenix, contains approximately 90,000 crystalline panels operating on a single axis tracking system. It is owned by PSEG Solar Source, a subsidiary of PSEG, a diversified energy company based in New Jersey. juwi solar Inc. (JSI) is the developer. Salt River Project (SRP) has a 20-year agreement to acquire all of the solar energy generated by the 19 megawatt AC project (25 Mw – DC), which started commercial production on October 3.
Dignitaries in attendance were Diana Drysdale, President of PSEG Solar Source; Gail Barney, Mayor of Queen Creek; David Rousseau, President of Salt River Project; Steve Ihnot, Chief Financial Officer of juwi Solar Inc.; and Ralph Izzo, Chairman, President and CEO, PSEG.
The Queen Creek Solar Farm is located at 20214 S. 220th St., Queen Creek, AZ adjacent to Barney’s Sports Complex (Mobile GPS has more accurate directions to Barney’s at 22050 E. Queen Creek Rd., Queen Creek, AZ)
This marks the second solar plant in the Valley that SRP is purchasing solar from and will offsets approximately 21,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year. That is the equivalent of removing approximately 4,100 vehicles from Valley roads. It will also generate as much energy used by approximately 3,300 average SRP households per year.
