Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb Announces Run for Congress
Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb has officially launched his campaign for Congress, announcing last Wednesday that he will run to represent Arizona's 5th Congressional District - the East Valley seat currently held by Rep. Andy Biggs, who is not seeking reelection as he pursues a bid for governor.
Lamb, 53, filed his statement of interest with the Arizona Secretary of State's Office on Monday before formally kicking off his campaign two days later. The Republican served as Pinal County Sheriff from 2016 to 2023, earning statewide name recognition during his tenure and his later 2024 run for U.S. Senate, where he lost in the GOP primary to Kari Lake.Since then, Lamb has remained active in public policy, joining the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) as a law enforcement advisor.
Arizona's 5th Congressional District covers much of the southeastern Valley, including Chandler, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Queen Creek, San Tan Valley, and eastern Mesa. The district is considered one of the most reliably Republican in the state.
Lamb enters what is already shaping up to be a crowded Republican primary. At least eight GOP candidates have filed to run for the open seat, including former Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely, former state lawmaker Travis Grantham, conservative activist Alex Stovall, and Daniel Keenan, founder of DK Builders.
With his law enforcement background, strong base in Pinal County, and previous statewide campaign experience, Lamb is expected to be among the early frontrunners in the race.
Biggs has represented the district since 2017 and confirmed earlier this year that he will not seek another term in Congress. His decision has opened one of Arizona's most competitive Republican primaries heading into the 2026 election cycle.
