Public Input Sought on Goldfield Rec Area

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public input on a proposed recreation area in Apache Junction. The proposed development, known as the Goldfield Recreation Area, would span over 1,098 acres and provide opportunities for off-highway vehicle driving, horseback riding, camping, and hiking.

According to Phoenix District Manager Leon Thomas, the BLM wants to enhance recreation opportunities on public lands near Apache Junction and is looking for feedback from the community. "We are eager to hear from residents about how we can make the most of this beautiful land," he said.

Residents can provide input in-person at a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Apache Junction Elks Lodge or virtually on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Microsoft Teams. During the meetings, attendees will hear about the proposal, have a chance to speak with a specialist, and provide feedback.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it., online at the BLM National NEPA Register, or by mail to the Lower Sonoran Field Office, Attn: Goldfield Recreation Area, 2020 E. Bell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85022. The virtual meeting will also be recorded and posted on the BLM website for those who are unable to attend.

The BLM encourages all interested residents to attend the meetings and provide feedback on the proposed Goldfield Recreation Area.
