Pinal County Gears Up for Presidential Preference Election with Key Voter Information

With the Presidential Preference Election (PPE) on the horizon, Pinal County Recorder Dana Lewis is on a mission to ensure all eligible voters in the county are well-informed and prepared to participate in this crucial part of the democratic process. The PPE, a key event in the nomination process for presidential candidates, is set for March 19, 2024, and Recorder Lewis is leaving no stone unturned in educating the public about the voting requirements, early voting options, and polling locations.

In Pinal County, the Presidential Preference Election requires voters to be registered with either the Republican or Democrat parties to cast their vote. This stipulation excludes registered independents and members of other parties from participating, as the PPE is specifically designed to help these two major parties select their presidential candidates. Recorder Lewis emphasized the importance of this requirement, stating, "By state law, registered independents and other parties are exempt from this election. It is restricted to registered voters within the parties appearing on the ballot."

The deadline for eligible voters to register as a Democrat or Republican to participate in the PPE is February 20, 2024. Early voting will begin the following day, on February 21, 2024. Pinal County residents are encouraged to verify their voting status and find pertinent election-related information, including polling locations, at the official Pinal Votes website.

Addressing potential confusion regarding polling places, Recorder Lewis pointed out a critical distinction for Pinal County voters. Unlike Maricopa and Pima Counties, which use a Vote Center model allowing voters to cast their ballots at any designated center within the county, Pinal County operates on a precinct-based voting system. This means voters must go to their assigned polling place to vote. Lewis stressed the importance of this distinction, noting that misconceptions could prevent voters from successfully casting their ballots.

To assist voters in finding their designated polling location for the March 19 election, the county has provided resources, including the 2024 Presidential Preference Elections Polling Place Designations. Recorder Lewis also invites local groups and media representatives to reach out to her office for additional information or clarification on the voting process in Pinal County.

As the election approaches, Recorder Lewis and her team are dedicated to ensuring that every eligible voter in Pinal County has the knowledge and resources they need to exercise their right to vote confidently and efficiently.
