Fire destroys mobile home in Apache Junction

An early-morning fire destroyed this mobile home in Apache Junction on Tuesday.

A family lost all it had after a fire destroyed a mobile home in Apache Junction early Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out on one end of the mobile home around midnight, and nine members of the family were left without a home, said Brian Gomez of the Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Gomez said nine adults and two children were displaced.

A woman living at the home said she was awakened by smoke alarms, woke her husband and then they grabbed their two grandsons and got out safely.

She said one end of the trailer near gold Drive and Frontier Street was consumed by the fire and that their home was a total loss.

"We were very lucky. All that is material that can be replaced," she said looking back at the burned out mobile home. "Thank the Lord we are all safe."

She praised the efforts of the Mesa and Apache Junction fire departments, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and Apache Junction Police Department for their efforts.

"They were all just wonderful," she said.

No cause had been determined and no other information was immediately available.
