Authorities in Coolidge say a 12-year-old boy died after walking in the heat and passing out.

The Coolidge police confirm Hersy Feliz and his brother were walking home from a park on Wednesday when his brother found Feliz on the ground.

When emergency personnel arrived, Feliz's body temperature reached 109 degrees. Emergency crews found Feliz had burn injuries on his forearms, legs and left shoulder. Officials believe the burns were caused by prolonged exposure to the hot asphalt.

Although hospital staff managed to stabilize him, Feliz died at the hospital.

Police say the teen had a history of thyroid problems. Doctors believe that his thyroid medications may have contributed to his death.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for funeral expenses.
