Letter to the Editor: We're living in tragically historic times
Mr Chairman,
We're living in tragically historic times.
With Donald Trump's armed military occupation of our nation's Capital and plans to occupy other American cities led by Black mayors, these days demand truth-telling in support of Democracy and resistance to Dictatorship.
Americans are facing a governance crisis fueled by the President's unparalleled moral depravity and racist bigotry -- a toxic combination that fueled our nation's civil war, and fuels today's national divisive crisis.
Trump's governing tactics are clearly designed not only to avoid being tied to the Epstein files sex trafficking disclosures but cunningly crafted to distract from hasty consolidation of dictatorial power before the public recognizes democracy's demise into a police state.
His moral bankruptcy and criminality are indelibly documented by his recorded corrupt words and confirmed by court decisions that declare him an adjudged sexual predator and a convicted unrepentant criminal.
Trump's immoral disrespect for women is captured in Access Hollywood's tape recording of his vulgar abuse of women, followed by his depraved remarks about his own daughter Ivanka's physical attributes, saying if she weren't his daughter he'd probably be dating her.
Tied to his moral decadence is Trump's racist bigotry that was on full display as he opened his 2015 campaign by characterizing Mexican immigrants as criminals and rapists.
Nonetheless my resistance to Trump finds unexpected hope in the words of Mormon leader Brigham Young that every time anti-Mormon bigots persecuted his community they elevated and strengthened his people, and every time the bigots tried to decrease his community's numbers, his community increased in numbers.
I'm further uplifted in resistance to Trump's racism by Martin Luther King Jr's soulful dream that people should be judged not by the color of our skin but by the content of our character.
So, where are today's moral leaders? Where's Mr Goodman's voice that at this Board previously indicated that he represented a segment of his community in endorsing the election of the unrepentant criminal convict Donald Trump?
Where are the community family values voices on separating innocent immigrant children from job-seeking parents?
Their silence is deafening!
