Letter to the Editor: The two most divisive political issues facing our nation since the Civil War

Mr. Chairman, at the October 15 Board of Supervisors meeting, Mr. Jeff Serdy speaking during Call to the Public, revived the two most divisive political issues facing our nation since the Civil War.

Without evidence, he revived the discredited Big Lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from candidate Donald Trump, along with his claim that the January 6, 2021 violent insurrectionist attack against the Capitol was instigated by 275 FBI agents involving hundreds more so-called assets.

Mr. Serdy's assertion of a stolen election goes counter to every judicial court that ruled no evidence supported those accusations. Even Trump's FBI director Kash Patel a few days ago disputed President Trump's accusation of FBI involvement on January 6, saying "the agents were sent into a crowd control mission after the riot was declared by Metro Police". Mr Patel further clarified on platform X that the FBI agents were responding to the attack, not being there prior to it.

Additionally, Arizona's 2021 Republican legislature's Cyber Ninja stolen election audit failed to find any fraud.

Mr Chairman, Pinal County cannot afford to keep reviving discredited Big Lie propaganda that sets back efforts to re-establish confidence in our maligned election processes.

Moreover, baseless statements on stolen elections and January 6 FBI insurrection instigators suggests these irresponsible remarks are in some way a perversely designed distraction. To distract from the Board's failure to push back against the Trump administration's increased burden on American families to provide tax relief for America's billionaires.

How else explain the Board's silence on Trump's cuts to affordable Medicaid health care, to public education, affordable housing, aid for road construction, clean energy production, public lands protection, and cuts to tax incentives related to electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure that directly hurt our county's economy.

I agree with Mr Serdy and other Board members that Call to the Public remarks should provide public input related to subject matter within the Board of Supervisors authority or jurisdiction.

Surely these Trump actions are hurting our county. Quoting a recently departed Arizonan, I dare you to place this on the agenda.

Clearly these federal actions affecting your constituent families and our county economy are within the Board's authority and jurisdiction.

Roberto Reveles read these remarks at the Pinal County Board of Supervisors meeting, November 5, 2025.
