Letter to the Editor: Prop 495 Will Hurt Seniors Like Me

I'm retired and live on a fixed income. I've spent decades working hard and planning carefully for my retirement. I chose San Tan Valley because it was affordable, safe, and both my son and daughter live here. This whole Prop 495 thing to turn our area into a new town - I'm not buying it.

Incorporation won't fix our roads, schools, or public services. What it will do is create a brand-new layer of government that we'll have to fund through new taxes and fees. And while the pro side says "there are no new taxes in the proposal," anyone with common sense knows that running a city costs money. Where do you think that money will come from?

I already pay county taxes, and under Prop 495, I'll still be paying them โ€” but now I'd also be responsible for city costs. That means seniors like me could end up paying more for less.

I've seen enough in my years to know a rushed, vague proposal when I see one. Prop 495 is long on promises and short on facts. There's no clear financial plan, no list of what services we'll lose or keep, and no solid answers about how we'll afford it. That's too risky for those of us who don't have extra income to throw around.

If you're on a budget, if you're trying to stretch your retirement dollars, or if you just believe in responsible planning โ€” vote NO on Prop 495.

โ€” Gerald T
Retired, San Tan Valley resident

The prospective city would have access to state shared revenue which would be about 40m$, which would be enough to cover the city from the jump. Also, we would start getting money for each house built here from the state.

You mention in the article that you want 'responsible' planning but don't want incorporation. You're a special kind of stupid if you think we've had responsible planning. Hunt & Gary has wrecks every day and they just approved 600+ new units on the corner.

This website has constant misinformation regarding incorporation. I used to like reading news here.
