Letter to the Editor: General Election

We've heard a reassuring Report and Review regarding the Elections Department's process moving forward for the General Election.

What we haven't heard is what is the County Sheriff's process going forward. After all, this is the leader of the disarmingly named Protect America Now, whose major project is Operation Drop Box, a call for vigilante surveillance of ballot drop boxes, and he is the nationally recognized promoter of True the Vote, dedicated to undoing the certified results of the 2020 presidential election using the Big Lie.

Clearly his Operation Drop Box is underway. Armed vigilante activity in Mesa is now being investigated by the U.S. Justice Department and the FBI at the request of the Secretary of State and Maricopa County officials.

Also, a few days ago, in a different incident, Attorney General Mark Brnovich requested the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service to investigate True the Vote for refusing to cooperate with Arizona investigators and for failing to present its claimed evidence of 2020 election fraud, the debunked 2000 Mules film.

Can the County reassure the public that our Pinal County ballot drop boxes are not being threatened by Sheriff Lamb's True the Vote collaborators?

Can the County reassure us that the process of administering the election and its results does not involve Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb?

Mr. Chairman, please clarify Sheriff Lamb's involvement in administering our elections. Otherwise, we're left to wonder how confident can we be in relying on the After-Action Report and Administrative Review? A challenge created not by a doubting public, but by the actions of the County Sheriff whose nefarious actions over the past two years have clearly compromised his personal integrity and that of the entire Sheriff's Office.

By the way, with all the investigations underway, it's an opportune time for the Sheriff and his support staff to receive legal warning about retention of records.
